How do I self-refer?

First of all you will need to check that you are eligible.

You need to be:

  • Aged 25 or over
  • Live in Greater Manchester
  • Have the right to remain and work in the UK
  • Not currently be in employment, self-employment
  • Not currently be accessing any formal training
  • Be experiencing at least two barriers such as mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, homelessness or risk of homelessness, criminal behaviour, physical health issues/disabilities, debt issues, domestic abuse.

Or

You could be referred to us from an agency such as the Job Centre, GP, Citizen’s Advice, Probation Officer or any other health or support professional who thinks that Motiv8 could help you.

What happens after my referral has been submitted?

Once we have received your referral we may contact you to ask some questions. If we can’t assist we may refer you elsewhere.

If you meet our eligibility criteria a member of our attachment team will ask you to provide evidence of your right to live and work in the UK. If necessary they will help you obtain this.

Your attachment worker will work with you to create a personalised Needs Assessment and Action Plan.

You will be allocated a dedicated key worker who will provide you with individual support on every step of your journey. They will help you access whatever specialist support you need and will review your action plan on a regular basis.

Your journey will end once we have addressed the support needs outlined in your action plan and you have achieved a positive outcome. You may have moved closer to accessing volunteering, training, job search or employment.

Am I eligible for Motiv8?

You need to be 25 or over, not in employment or training, live in the Greater Manchester area and have the right to live and work, or right to remain in the UK.
Additionally, you must have at least 2 significant issues that are not being managed. These might include:


  • Mental health issues
  • Drug or alcohol misuse
  • Homelessness or risk of homelessness
  • Criminal behaviour/risk of re-offending
  • Physical health issues/disabilities
  • Debt issues
  • Domestic abuse

How long does it take to get on the programme?

We aim to attach you to the programme within four weeks of the referral being received and verified. This can be minimised if you have documents to demonstrate your eligibility, for example a birth certificate or passport and proof of benefits letter.

What happens if I don’t have a birth certificate, passport or proof of benefit information?

We can support you by obtaining a birth certificate. We can also help you obtain a proof of benefits letter, however, this may add to the time it takes to attach you to the programme.

What if English isn’t my first language and I struggle to understand?

We will do our best to support those whose first language is not English. For example, we have a specialist partner who provides ESOL courses.

Do I need to complete a referral form?

You can fill in a referral form yourself here or the form can be completed for you at a drop in session, call 0161 331 2048 to find out more. You can also be referred to us from an agency such as a Job Centre, GP, Citizen’s Advice, Probation Officer or any other health or support professional who think that Motiv8 could help you.

I have previously been on the Motiv8 programme but now want further support. Am I eligible?

If you have been with Motiv8 previously and left us to start training, job searching or employment, then you may not be eligible to return. Call us to confirm if you are eligible. If you cannot return to the programme, we will try and signpost you to another service.
